Executing an advanced search

An advanced search allows you to execute more complex searches than can be performed by a simple search. An advanced search allows you to specify which properties to search for and to combine criteria with the Boolean operators AND and OR. An advanced search also allows you to search for words or phrases contained within documents, not just property values.

Tip    Searching for documents with a single property value (document class, file type, project number, product, and so on) is easier with a simple search. For more information about simple searches, see Executing a simple search.

To execute an advanced search:

  1. Click Document Search in the Navigation pane. The Document Search tabs appear.
  2. Click the Advanced tab. The Advanced tab appears, similar to the following figure.

  1. Select the vault that you want to search from the Search in list.
  2. To restrict the search to the contents of a single folder and its sub-folders, click the folder button and select a folder.
  3. Continue by specifying property values (see Specifying property value search criteria), content criteria (see Specifying document content search criteria), or search result options (see Specifying search result options.
